effective altruism/rationality often attracts lonely, intellectually gifted teenagers for whom ea was the first place that they feel belonging. once emotionally invested, they face psychological pressure to adopt ea values or risk losing their community.

ea values are weird and also extremely morally coercive. and it’s totally fine if you believe the values but this makes it hard for people who don’t to leave. kind of like a religious cult.

This is a site devoted to critiquing ea/rationality and its adjacencies. I have lots to write about, but for now, I will just make a compilation of existing content:

1. General patterns

A lot of issues I have with this community boils down to certain cultish behaviors. Here is some content that is not specifically about the rationalists but critique this pervasive pattern that undercuts much of the Bay Area tech culture too.

2. Some rationalist/effective altruist (sometimes loosely) affiliated organizations/figures criticism/discussion

Not everything in the links is endorsed by me. This is just a loose compilation of pages I remember for now. I'll probably condense things later.
